When Nonoy Quimbo decided to set up a winery in the Philippines, many of his contemporaries thought he was crazy. There was no way, they said, that a locally-made wine would be able to compete with the more well-known varieties from other countries, particularly in a market that is more familiar with beers and distilled spirits.
The Novellino Chief Executive Officer and founder, Quimbo, pressed on, literally and figuratively, with a small-scale business run from a 300-square meter space in Valenzuela, and produced a wine that is distinctly tailored toward Filipino tastes.
