A ‘Golden Age’ of Third World optics

IN one memorable line of the movie “The Graduate,” the young Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) was advised that the future of enterprise was “plastic.” That was a long-ago movie and in the current age of Blockchain, that advice is, for all intents and purposes, outdated. Plastic bags are banned in 99 percent of metropolitan supermarkets and restaurants are forbidden to use plastic straws. Plastic s have seen the future and it is not encouraging. But look what products made a spectacular comeback in dried-up Metro Manila over the past few weeks.
