METRO Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), the road infrastructure arm of conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), expects to open the first phase of its P10-billion C5-South Link by May, its president Rodrigo Franco revealed during the groundbreaking ceremony at the Cavite segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calaex) on Wednesday. MPIC previously said the first section involved building a flyover above the South Luzon Expressway and Skyway from Circumferential Road 5 in Taguig City to Merville in Parañaque City. The second would run from Merville to Sucat, and the last from Sucat to R1 Expressway. MPTC targets to complete the 7.7-kilometer expressway project by 2020. Once finished, travel time from Parañaque, Las Piñas City and Cavite province to Taguig would be cut from one-and-a-half hours to 20 to 30 minutes.
