Catarman, Northern Samar: A detainee facing illegal drugs case escaped while attending a hearing at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Catarman, Northern Samar on Wednesday. Retired Senior Supt. Restituto Lim, provincial jail warden, in his report to Governor Jose Ong Jr., said detainee Jerry Borbon, a native of Barangay Baybay in Catarman, asked permission from his jail guards led by Deodito Amaranto to use the comfort room inside the court. But the guards later discovered that Borbon had escaped. A court employee told The Manila Times he saw the prisoner climbed over the fence of the RTC building then fled towards the direction of Barangay Baybay. Lim said there was laxity on the part of the jail guards in performing their duties. He said Borbon was a notorious criminal also known for theft and robbery activities.
