Police arrested a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK or Youth Council) chairman and his cohort in a buy-bust along the national road in Barangay Gaas, Balamban town, in southwest Cebu on Tuesday. The suspects were identified by police as Regie Abanto, 20, SK chairman of Barangay Bayong, Balamban, and his cohort Renan Sotto, 29, of Barangay Luz, Cebu City. In an interview, Police Officer 3 Emmanuel Blones of the Balamban police station said Abanto and Sotto sold three sachets of shabu with a street value of P141,600 to a police poseur-buyer for P1,000.00 around 11:20 p.m. Blones added that Abanto, a marine engineering student of a Cebu City university, confessed that Sotto was his source of illegal drugs and that he was renting a house in Barangay Luz where he met Sotto. Blones said Abanto was on his first term as SK chairman. He added that Abanto and Sotto admitted their involvement in illegal drugs and are detained at the Balamban police station. The two face charges under Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
