Temperature in Metro Manila soared to 36.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the hottest day of the year so far in the metropolis, according to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview, Marilyn Medina said the reading was taken at the agency’s Science Garden in Diliman, Quezon City at 2 p.m. yesterday.
She said that Saturday’s temperature surpassed the previous high of 35.9 degrees, which was recorded on Friday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Based on PAGASA’s climatological record, the hottest temperature in Metro Manila was recorded on May 14, 1987 at 38.5 degrees Celsius.
The hottest temperature in the country this year was recorded in General Santos City in Mindanao at 38.4 degrees Celsius on April 6, followed by Tuguegarao City at 37.0 degrees Celsius recorded on April 2.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in the country was in Tuguegarao, Cagayan at 42.2 degrees Celsius on May 11, 1969.
