Authorities arrested ranking communist rebel leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon in Carcar City in Cebu on Saturday.

The Tiamzons, who are believed to have taken over the leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the New People’s Army (NPA) from CPP founding chairman Jose Ma. Sison, were arrested with five others by a combined team from the Army and Philippine National Police.
