THE resort town of Hua Hin, about 200 kilometers south of the Thailand capital of Bangkok, may not exactly be as recognizable a touristy name as that of Pattaya or Phuket, but apparently it’s a popular destination among well-heeled Europeans and locals alike—it was the Thai royalty who have marked the town as a seaside getaway. And it’s Hua Hin that Chevrolet Sales Thailand chose as the road trip destination for a group of Asean journalists.

Which was quite apt, really. Because Chevrolet’s preferred ride for the trip was the Cruze 2.0 LTZ, the carmaker’s diesel-burning variant of its popular global compact model. Apparently, out-of-the-ordinary destinations call for out-of-the-ordinary cars, too.
