It’s the month for women. We should remember one of the greatest Filipinas, whose name is that of one of this country’s most admired association for women.

Gabriela Silang and her husband, Diego, became great figures in Philippine history because what is called Europe’s “Seven Years War” came to the Philippines. On September 24, 1762, ships of the British expeditionary force, from their bases in India (operated by the British East India Company but chartered by the British Crown), entered Manila Bay. Under the command of General William Draper and Admiral Samuel Cornish the British forces laid siege to Manila, which fell on October 5. The Spaniards surrendered not only Manila but the whole Philippines to the British.
