‘No funds available for mine rehab’

LEGAZPI CITY: A top official of Lafayette mining on Thursday said the firm had no budget for the rehabilitation plan of the Rapu-Rapu mines, whose operations closed down after causing two toxic spills in the Albay Gulf in October.

The lawyer Joselito “Sarge” Sarmiento, director and corporate secretary of Lafayette, appeared before the members of the Albay provincial council and disclosed that the company had no money for the six-year life of the mine.
