CAMP SERVILLANO AQUINO, Tarlac: Five of the soldiers involved in the battle that resulted in the death of 13 communist rebels on Independence Day in Mexico, Pampanga, were awarded Gold Cross Medals, the third highest decoration that can be bestowed on a Filipino soldier.
In simple rites at the Cordillera Hall at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Romeo Dominguez, commander of Northern Luzon Command, conferred a Gold Cross Medal (with First Bronze Anahaw Leaf) on 1Lt. Joel D. Banatao, who led soldiers of the 69th Infantry Battalion’s Alpha Company against the rebels.
