Vigan revisited

A stroll through the  cobblestone streets of Vigan somewhat reminds the discerning traveler of Intramuros, its counterpart tourist attraction in Manila.  Only that—after many years of development and conservation efforts—Vigan has managed to rise above its reputation as the Heritage City of Ilocos Sur.  Everyone who has been there would agree; Vigan has more to offer today as a tourism destination, from its centuries-old ancestral homes, beautiful arts and crafts, clean and green surroundings to the small industries it has nurtured.

The weeklong Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival of the Arts, which culminated yesterday, showcased the many changes in this Unesco World Heritage Cite since it became a city in October 9, 2000, and since the rehabilitation of the historic center commenced in 2001 with the help of the Spanish government.
