ABOUT 1,700 persons were arrested for violating the nationwide election gun ban, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Thursday.

Senior Supt. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesman, said that 1,731 persons were apprehended since the Commission on Elections (Comelec) imposed the ban on January 13.
