The United States has committed continuous support for the Philippines by helping out in Manila’s military’s modernization program, as well as humanitarian assistance for destruction caused by Typhoon “Ompong” last week, according to the US Department of State.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo where they also reaffirmed the commitment of Washington and Manila to the Mutual Defense Treaty of 1951 between the two countries.
