THE Quezon City Council has passed a resolution urging the Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department (EPWMD) to strictly implement in all barangay (villages) rules and regulations for the collection, segregation and recycling of biodegradable, recyclable, compostable and reusable wastes. It proposed the establishment of Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF) in the city’s 142 villages. Councilor Elizabeth Delarmente introduced the resolution, which is in compliance with the city government’s mandate to prevent and control pollution of water, air and land for more effective utilization of resources. Mayor Herbert Bautista said the city continuously strengthens its capability to protect the environment by implementing a comprehensive environmental protection program despite the closure of the Payatas sanitary landfill on August 2, 2017 by the Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region for various environmental violations and susceptibility to a trash slide.
