We didn’t know, until we came across this MMDA brochure, that
there are 14 structures along the Pasig River that one could not
transfer or tear down without breaking the law. The brochure,
“Disiplina sa Ilog Pasig,” takes a dip in the river’s history
and navigates a channel of laws and administrative rules on the
protection of the historic waterway. Published by the Metropolitan
Manila Development Authority chaired by Bayani Fernando, the
pamphlet reminds us that the rehabilitation of Rizal’s favorite
swimming spot is a project of the Pasig River Rehabilitation
Commission. The MMDA is a member of the Laguna Lake Development
Authority, which oversees the project.
