ST. LOUIS, Missouri: The first round of the PGA BMW
Championship was postponed after the remnants of Hurricane Gustav
dumped rain on the area.
Officials have rescheduled the
first round to be played on Friday at the Bellerive course, and plan
to play 36 holes on Saturday to get the event back on track for a
Sunday finish.
PGA Tour tournament director
Slugger White said that Gustav was scheduled to be gone by Thursday
afternoon, and that the forecast for the rest of the week was good.
Due to the small 69-man field,
there should be no problem playing 36 holes on Saturday, he said.
The BMW Championship is the third
of four events on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoff series.
Fiji-Indian Vijay Singh won the
first two events, all but locking up the $10-million bonus awarded
to the playoff winner.
