ASUS EeePC 900

****

What is it: The next ASUS “netbook” model from the much-loved EeePC line.

Who’s it for: People looking for an ultralight and ultraporatble notebook powerful enough to do basic computing and Internet connectivity.

Wallet magnet: Larger 8.9-inch LCD screen with higher resolution (1024x600); Intel CPU (Celeron M 900MHz), Intel chipset and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900; 1GB DDR 400 RAM; 12GB SSD (4GB built-in + 8GB flash for Microsoft Windows OS Version); 20GB SSD(4GB built-in +16GB flash for the Linux OS Version); built-in 1.3MP webcam; available in Pearl white or Galaxy black ; shockproof hard plastic construction.

On second thought: Performance and battery life practically the same as the earlier EeePC 701 model; almost P10k more for the 9-inch LCD screen.

What’s in the box: ASUS EeePC 900; power adapter; user’s manual; slip pouch.

Tech Times’ verdict: We don’t know if the larger 8.9" screen justifies the additional P10,000. Nonetheless, the ASUS EeePC is still the best “netbook” available in the market today—that is, if you can’t wait for the Intel Atom version, coming in a month or two.
