Bombers notch first win in Goodwill Cup

THE Bombay Bombers blew a huge lead before notching their first win, beating the Blue Sharks, 65-58, in the 2008 FIBL Goodwill Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

Ravi Gurnamal led the balanced attack of the Bombers with 15 points. He also grabbed five rebounds and issued five assists. Kishore Mirpuri was a monster inside, netting 11 points, clearing 14 boards and blocking five shots.

But the key to victory was their defense on reigning MVP Manoj Chandumal. The Bombers held him scoreless until 3:50 in the third period.

Chandumal rallied in the fourth period when Chandumal finally got his bearing. He eventually finished with 13 points, but the Blue Sharks fell short.

In the other game, rookies Vladimir Singh and Ajeet Sing led the Kings past the Knights, 88-72.

The Kings tore the game apart in the third period, outscoring the Knights, 20-12 to take a 62-46 lead.

The event is supported by Hello Baby, Indra Garments, Sehwani Manpower, Multi-Sphere Trading, Orogem, MB Garments, Cotton Stuff, Kashmir, Mossimo, Indian Chamber, Cooper Jugs and Canadian Beddings.
