HARDWARE

Coolink GFXChilla keeping the video card cool

Locally, it’s a bit hard to find a really good VGA-fansink that could replace the stock cooler that usually comes integrated with the graphics card. In fact, only a few retailers do sell an alternative VGA-cooler, mostly it’s for CPUs. Also, these PC components are not the type that you could easily get over-the-counter from any corner computer shop. So, having the GFXChilla from Coolink was indeed a wonderful treat for us.

The GFXChilla employs four high-performance heatpipes and two large 80mm fans that are able to provide superior cooling performance at incredibly low noise levels. In addition, the GFXChilla is compatible with a wide range of VGA cards available in the market today, which is great. Moreover, this easy-to-install VGA fansink can easily be upgraded if the need arises.

We installed the GFXChilla on the ASUS Nvidia EN9600GT Silent, which came only with a passive cooler. Although the ASUS VGA-card already has an effective cooling system, the GFXChilla fit perfectly and did its job in cooling the hot 9600 chipset. The Nvidia card was very stable and performed really well even without the original gigantic heatsinks. The Coolink fansink even gave it a leaner and lighter look.

The four 6mm heatpipes gave excellent heat distribution throughout the cooling fins and the two large, low-profile 80x80x10mm fans spun almost silently. In addtion, the included self-adhesive aluminum RAM & VR heatsinks in the package provides additional passive cooling for the other chips around the GPU. Overall, it’s one effective third-party VGA-cooler.
