BMW S 1000 RR to do battle in the 2009 Superbike World

BMW Motorrad recently announced it will field an entry in the 2009 Superbike World Championship. The company’s foray into the highly competitive race series will be hinged on its latest and arguably most thrilling race bike: the new S 1000 RR.

BMW Motorrad revealed it had tirelessly tested the S 1000 RR at the Eurospeedway Lausitzring. The latest test runs gave its factory riders—Steve Martin, Kevin Curtain and Jeremy McWilliams—a chance to compare their lap times and performance with the previous year’s races. At the end of the tests, the team was pleased with the bike’s progress and was eager to work on the next stages of its development, BMW Motorrad said.
