CJ LARIOSA topped the women’s 57-kg category while Mylene Gonzales
ruled the 63-kg division to lead University of the Philippines-Diliman’s
four-gold feat in the judo competitions of the first Universiade
tournament Sunday night at the City College of Manila gym.
UP’s two other gold winners were Leslyn
Gonzales in the 70-kg class and Adriene Bernardez in the 78-kg
category.
CCM produced three golds courtesy of Rubello
Torino (48kg), Ken Jordan Aguas (55kg) and Kris Ortivez (73kg) while
AJA captured two golds courtesy of Karine Palileo in the women’s
45kg and Joe Wong in the men’s 90 kg.
UP-Los Baños also claimed two golds coming from
men’s 66kg, through Jesus Araneta in the men’s 66kg and John
Pocholo Leoncio in the men’s 81kg.
Over at the SM San Lazaro, AMA-Laguna clinched
four of the 12 gold medals at stake in karatedo. Winners were Ryan
Saavedra in the men’s 50-kg kumite, Loreza Calicoy in the
women’s 44-kg kumite and Janine Bay in the women’s 55-kg kumite.
MPC-Marikina won three while De La Salle-Cavite
nailed two in the week-long event organized by the Federation of
School Sports Associations of the Philippines and backed by PAGCOR,
Land Bank of the Philippines, Burlington Socks, Vega and Summit
Mineral Water.
Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and
Technology kept the lead in the chess tournament, with the men’s
team earning seven points and the women’s team posting 7.5 points.
In volleyball, St. Jude College defeated EARIST,
25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18, and rallied past Lyceum of Calamba,
14-25, 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 16-14, while St. Francis of Assisi
downed CCM, 25-14, 25-16, 25-18 and later outclassed San Carlos
College-Pangasinan, 25-15, 25-9, 25-9.
In basketball, PATTS College of Aeronautics
clobbered Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, 102-97, for its
second in three outings. AIMS absorbed its third straight loss.
Philippine School of Business Administration
leads Group A with four wins while UPHR-Las Piñas is on top of
Group B at 3-0.
