CAMP FLORENDO, La Union: A crusading lawyer handling several illegal drug cases was gunned down by unidentified suspects in Barangay Santa Monica, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur late on Thursday. Reports said Melver Tolentino, 42, of San Lucas in Magsingal town, was on board his car and briefly stop at a gasoline station when the assailants riding a motorcycle shot him with M-16 armalite rifle. He died on the spot from multiple gunshots. Police recovered 21 empty shells for armalite rifle at the crime scene. Tolentino is also legal counsel of the Ilocos Sur provincial board.
