THIRTY-SIX old and weak bridges in Metro Manila need to be strengthened to make these safe and resilient in the event of large magnitude earthquakes, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH National Capital Region (NCR) Director Melvin Navarro said on Friday that the DPWH has allotted P1.076 billion to retrofit, rehabilitate, or replace the bridges.
