Peter Drucker, considered as the “father of management,” made a forecast in an interview with Forbes Magazine in 1997. He said: “Thirty years from now the big university campuses will be relics. Universities won’t survive.” His main reasons were the exorbitant cost of higher education and the continuous changes in the modes of academic formation, among others.
“We are already beginning to deliver more lectures and classes off campus via satellite or two-way video at a fraction of the cost. The college won’t survive as a residential institution. Buildings are hopelessly unsuited and totally unneeded,” Drucker said.
